Guide to necessary car maintenance
No matter how much you paid for your vehicle, it is an investment. It is the way you get around, to insure that this investment is going to last for a while. There is maintenance that most be done on a routine basis to insure that the vehicle will last. There is routine maintenance that needs to be done also to insure the safety of yourself and your passengers and other travelers on the roads.
The maintenance is not performed often, but it should be. It is safety maintenance, and this is replacing your brake fluid at least once per year. With the changing of the seasons and the use of the brakes, condensation builds up which adds water to the brake fluid. With water in the brake fluid it does not allow the brakes to function properly. Faulty brakes are a safety hazard for all parties involved.
Tires should be kept with proper air pressure to prevent blowouts while driving. The rubber on the tire should be kept where you can get proper traction. The minimum tire tread in 1/16 inch from the bottom of the tire groove.
The oil and oil filter should be changed between two and four thousand miles, depending on the driving conditions. You should replace the air filter and fuel filter between six thousand and ten thousand miles, again depending on the driving conditions. The vehicle needs a tune up between ten thousand and fifteen thousand miles, while doing the tune up make sure to replace PCV valve, flush and change coolant, replace V-belts. A complete tune-up would also entail replacing any hoses that need to be changed, this is best to take a look at your hoses at least one a weak. While driving, debris could catch one of the hoses and make dents which cut turn into holes.
