Car runs stop sign: Careless driving: Negligent maintenance of roadway: Brain damage: Wrongful death: Settlement
McVeigh, 42, and his wife, 37, were passengers in a car that was making a left turn when another vehicle ran a stop sign and collided with die car. McVeigh suffered multiple brain contusions, causing him to be in a coma for approximately 45 days. For four and a half years, McVeigh suffered from brain damage, seizures, depression, memory loss, and other problems. He worked only part-time and eventually lost his job. Four-and-a-half years after the incident, McVeigh suffered a fatal epileptic seizure. An autopsy showed that the seizure was a result of the head trauma sustained in die collision. An attorney who had been earning approximately $90,000 annually, McVeigh is survived by his wife and minor son. His medical expenses exceeded $550,000.
McVeigh's wife suffered damage to both knees and post-traumatic stress disorder. Her past medical expenses totaled approximately $3,000. A part-time attorney earning $50,000 annually, she missed six months of work to care for her husband and as a result of emotional distress.
